Open Projects

We are now accepting candidates for hosting fellowships via the Marie Skłodowska-Curie andHumboldt Research Fellowship frameworks. Together with the group of Carsten Deibel, we are seeking talented and motivated candidates to collaborate on multidisciplinary topics that cover the following examples or related research challenges. Scholarships & Fellowships

Motivated students with above-average qualification and may consider applying for their own doctoral scholarship with our support. Below, you find information on such schemes. Interested candidates should send their cover letter, transcript of records, CV, and their project idea (in bullet points) to Simon. Promising candidates will be contacted.

Sino-German Postdoc Scholarship Programme:  Funding for a research project in Germany (6-24 months). Application open 7 Nov – 9 Dec. The programme provides funding for graduates of Chinese universities that obtained their doctorate during the past two years. More info here.

DAAD Research Grants:  Funding for a research project in Germany (2-12 months PhD / 2-6 months postdoc). Application deadline may vary. The programme provides funding for research projects for a limited time both for doctoral students and postdocs. More info here.

Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees: Funding for a doctoratal degrees under joint supervision. This programme enables doctoral students to split their research time between their home university and our group in Chemnitz. With a joint work programme, you can broaden your scientific horizon and get a degree awarded by both universities. More info here.

DAAD Doctoral Programmes in Germany:   Funding up to a period of four years. Application deadline may vary. The programme provides funding for a doctoral project at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany. More info here.

ESF Plus PhD Scholarship Programme: Federal innovation doctorates explore topics of special interest for the Free State of Saxony and are expected to have an impact on the Saxon labour market. Such aspects are nicely covered by device-relevant studies, such as LEDs or solar cells.  Funding up to a period of four years until the submission of the dissertation thesis; Monthly scholarship rate of € 1.700 plus € 100 for each dependent child Application deadlines twice a year – look out for calls and info on this page.

Postdocs / PhD Students

You have your master’s degree or doctorate in the pocket and you have great ideas to pursue further? We are always looking for motivated and talented scientists with strong skills in STEM fields! Contact Simon with a copy of your CV, a and a brief statement on your intended research to discuss possible projects.

Strong candidates have experience in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field. International students are particularly welcome! Interested in binational projects? Great, so are we.

Also, it is always a good idea to consider applying for a scholarship/fellowship to develop your own ideas. Postdoctoral fellowships can be found, e.g. via the respective schemes of the DAAD and the DFG as well as the Humboldt and Marie Curie Fellowships.

Coming to the end of your programme and thinking about your thesis? Contact Simon with a CV and your transcript to discuss topics. Students from physics, chemistry, or materials science will be great fits, but students from other disciplines are welcome and will make valuable additions.
Note: Students of the AFM programme should first do their research project with us.
